Ali Baynham, Owner |
The Icehouse Quilt Shop is located in Grayling, Michigan, just one block west of the Business I-75 just before you reach the intersection with M-93 at the north-most edge of town.
The building that The Icehouse Quilt Shop calls home was just that, an 'ice house' or at least it was in the early days of railroads in Michigan. The building was a specially made ice warehouse where the railroad stored blocks of ice cut from the nearby lakes and then used the ice in the warmer months for food preservation and in their dining cars.
Ali Baynham is the owner and is the second generation of her family to run the shop. The larger section of the shop has a high vaulted ceiling where Ali hangs a large number of finished quilts that give her customers a first hand look at the beauty of some of the available quilt kits. The shop has a broad array of fabrics of all colors and patterns that provide plenty of opportunity to match and coordinate colors for quilters. Ali also has a wide range of Bernina sewing machines and notions for all types of sewing projects.
The Icehouse is one of Mary's (my lovely wife and devoted quilter) favorite quilt and fabric shops in Michigan. It's a required stop on our trips up north from Port Huron. Check the ShopFacts link above for a map and other information.
So for an enjoyable quilting experience in an old historic building, visit Ali and her staff at The Icehouse Quilt Shop in Grayling soon and tell them Jeff and Mary sent ya.........
Happy quilting................Jeff
